The Trust was established in 1994 to encourage research into all aspects of the New Forest and to publish the results of that work.  It has, at present, three trustees with special knowledge of the New Forest area.

The trustees have at their disposal a modest reserve of funds which has so far allowed the publication of  five books.  They are particularly  anxious to encourage research  by talented amateurs who may not have access to more formal sources of publication grants.
